Arts and Culture
The Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County was organized in 1995, emerging from the Chamber of Commerce’s Community Enrichment Committee. Since then, the ACCDC has sponsored over 85 arts programs in our community.
With a vision of “enriching imaginations, kindling hearts and cultivating a creative community,” the Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County’s mission is “to promote, support and enhance arts and cultural activities through education, exposure and participation.
In recent years, programs have expanded to include more educational opportunities in arts-related areas. The 2003-2004 “From StART to Finish” program series featured a visit by the Indianapolis Art Center ArtVan to the Tree City Fall Festival with arts activities for children. Other programs included:
- A free concert by the 38th Division Military Band
- A community Variety Show
- A 10-part radio series featuring different types of music with commentary
- Visiting artists with activities for children at the Greensburg/Decatur County Public Library
- A visiting artist for all fourth grade classes in the county as part of Psi Iota Xi’s Art Smart series
Renaissance scholarshipshave been awarded to local high school seniors who have excelled in the arts, and A.C.E. (Arts & Cultural Education) Grants have been given to local teachers to integrate or expand arts programming for their students.
Programming is partially funded through grants from the Columbus Area Arts Council, the Indiana Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Decatur County Visitors and Recreation Commission and the Decatur County Community Foundation.
The ACCDC also undertakes fundraising activities such as the popular “Luck of the Draw” $500 monthly raffle.
