Logistics

Let’s Meet in the Middle

The fact that Greensburg Decatur County, Indiana is situated right between Indianapolis, Indiana and Cincinnati, Ohio on Interstate 74 makes us attractive to companies in the logistics and distribution industry. After all, our location puts us less than an hour from two large commercial centers and their links to the major transportation arteries of Interstates 65, 69, 70, 71, and 75. With available space for distribution facilities that’s adjacent to Interstate 74, our location makes it possible to get here and there much more quickly.

But highway transportation isn’t our only advantage. Two of our business parks are served by the Central Railroad of Indiana (a Genesee & Wyoming line), with connections to CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern, and Canadian National mainlines. Need air cargo? We’re close to the FedEx Hub at Indianapolis International, the UPS hub at Louisville International, and the cargo providers using Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International.

Just as important, our business parks have infrastructure that can handle your company’s objectives, from redundant and reliable electricity, to an extensive fiber backbone, to large amounts of water and sewer capacity.

Manufacturing

Keeping Manufacturers in Production

Located at the center of the long line of automotive plants that stretches from southern Tennessee to central Michigan, Greensburg Decatur County, Indiana and its residents have long played important roles in manufacturing components for cars, trucks, and many other products. With regular rail service and excellent Interstate highway connections to the Interstates serving Indianapolis, Indiana and Cincinnati, Ohio, we put local companies within a day’s drive of dozens of major automotive and other manufacturing plants. That means fast and reliable transport for both raw materials and finished goods.

When you combine those location advantages with a huge labor shed of workers who already have the skills needed by today’s advanced manufacturers, and redundant sources for electric power, you’ll see why Honda Manufacturing of Indiana chose our area for its 3,000 employee assembly plant.

Our local education community understands the importance of providing the skills today and tomorrow’s employers need. Local high schools offer more than 50 dual-credit opportunities, with Project Lead the Way’s engineering-focused curriculum available at local junior and senior high schools. This year, Greensburg Community High School opens a 10,000-square-foot Vocational Education Manufacturing Lab to teach skills in CNC machining, welding, and CAD-based engineering and design.

Food & Agriculture

Greensburg Decatur County, Indiana understands the food industry, largely because we are surrounded by millions of acres of cropland. We’re in the heart of an agricultural region whose annual inputs include more than 80 million bushels of corn and 28 million bushels of soybeans, as well as an inventory of more than 320,000 head of hogs, 15,000 head of beef cattle, and 6,900 dairy cattle.

Combine that with abundant fresh water and sewer capacity, redundant electric power supplies, and a workforce that grew up with the skills and values associated with agriculture, and you’ll see what makes us a great site for food processing and agribusiness. And, of course, there’s a regional labor shed of more than 246,000 people with a proud heritage of self-motivation and quality that goes back several generations.
